Classes meet on Mondays from 7:00–8:00 PM at our South Portland studio. This progressive program offers a welcoming and supportive environment for beginners to learn foundational yoga poses, transitions, and the basics of flow yoga. Participating in the full series ensures you’ll gain confidence, build skills, and establish a strong foundation for your yoga practice.

Yoga Instructor: Lucy Liaw


Lucy is an advocate for wellness and personal empowerment, and brings this focus to her yoga practice and teaching. She received her 200h yoga teaching certification in 2021 through Maine YogaFest School of Yoga, studying vinyasa flow and yin yoga styles with Robin Ivy Payton and Andrea Gleason. Lucy has a background in biomedical sciences, and received her doctorate in cell and molecular biology of health and disease. She has experience studying the physical and spiritual way of the Japanese traditional martial arts, and combines this understanding with practice as a yogi since 2014. She has enjoyed years of growth as a yoga student within the Greener Postures community. Lucy studies yoga as a sustainable, rigorous, and balancing path towards self-awareness. She is a lifelong learner, and seeks to discover and guide the integration of physical, mental, and emotional strengths within herself and her students. She welcomes diversity of experiences and perspectives as a way to build a stronger community.

The GPY Beginner Yoga Series is a welcoming introduction to modern postural yoga, perfect for new students seeking to build confidence, learn foundational poses, and prepare for flow classes.

The Beginner Yoga Series is an ideal starting point for those new to yoga, offering a step-by-step introduction to modern postural yoga. Each one-hour class focuses on breaking down foundational poses and transitions common in flow yoga, providing a supportive environment to build confidence and understanding. With time for questions and guided practice, this series prepares students to join public flow classes with ease. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle, and either rent a mat for $1 or bring your own. This series is the first step toward a strong and sustainable yoga practice.
