NEW Teacher Training with Jacqui Bonwell in Maine

January 29, 2013
by Greener Postures

200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training with Jacqui Bonwell

This training will produce intelligent, connected, compassionate, nurturing, powerful and confident teachers well versed in history, philosophy, spirituality, anatomy, energy, safe sequencing, how to sequence for specific injury, etc.

Jacqui's training includes intense study of: asana (postures), pranayama, chanting, mantra, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. Analytical training in how to teach and practice the yoga techniques through practice and guided practice will be included. Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting, and instruction will also be a heavy focus. We will explore various styles of yoga, the qualities of a teacher, the business aspect of yoga and the student experience. Human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.,) energetic anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.) will be an intense part of this training. All benefits, contraindications and healthy movement patterns will be explored, as well as injury and modifications. Yoga philosophy, yoga lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers will be also be addressed. You will spend a significant amount of time practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing other teaching and hearing/giving feedback. You will spend time assisting in the training and in class. You will also have a requirement of non-contact hours of book reports, observing classes inside & outside the training as well as assisting yoga classes.  Reading will be a big piece of your self study. In order to become a powerful, well-equipped teacher, you MUST be dedicated to your training, your practice, your reading & your study. This program meets the Yoga Alliance (based in Pennsylvania) requirements to be 200 hour certified teacher under the Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher.  It is an optional certification.  Most states do not require certification to teach Yoga but require that teachers have 200 hrs of study in the field.  Some gyms and other corporations require YA certification.

"This training has been one of the most exhilarating and challenging things I have ever done.  I have loved yoga since the moment I stepped on a mat, but yoga is so much more than asana.  Jacqui delves into it all...the alignment, the sutras, chakras, the union of mind, body and spirit.  She is a phenomenal teacher who strives to bring out the phenomenal teacher in each of us."

-Rebecca Laber-Smith, Graduate of Jacqui's Teacher Training

More class offerings in West Falmouth

November 06, 2012
by Greener Postures

As many of you may know, we have two spaces in our new West Falmouth location. Surya (sanskrit for sun) is the heated space, where we offer the GPY vinyasa classes everyone has grown to know and love.  We have a full schedule that was created to fit into all of your busy lives.  We have 3 Fundamentals class per week there, these are regularly priced and are a stepping stone to the all-levels class.  They are a less heated, focus on the basics and for new students they are a great option.  We also have 3 community classes per week, these are $7, taught by newer teachers and are another option for students who are new to the studio as they go a little slower and are also less heated.. All the teachers from our South Portland location teach over in West Falmouth, and all passes are good at both locations.

The second space, Chandra (sanskrit for moon), is smaller and unheated, and we can now offer classes to compliment the vinyasa classes.

We have two kids classes per week, these are for children ages 6-11 and run at the same time as the adult classes.  There is one on Wednesdays at 4:30-5:30 PM taught by Bethany McCorkle and one at 11AM-12PM on Sundays taught by Kat LaCasse.  Both great teachers, super fun classes and they are only $10 for each child to attend.  Additionally we are so excited to introduce Sarah Estabrook to the team who is a trained youth yoga instructor and she will be teaching a Teens Yoga class, geared to 12-16 year olds.  This will be 4:30-5:30PM each Tuesday afternoon in Chandra, also $10 per student to attend.

Our other offerings in Chandra are classes geared to toward relaxations, recharging, and stretching.  The Restoratives Class is Wednesday nights 6:15-7:30PM, a new added time, Thursdays 7:30-8:30PM and Sunday nights 6-7:15PM.  Using lots of props and working with gravity to release stress and muscle tension, the poses are geared toward slowing down and truly finding your breath and tuning into your body.  The newest addition to the class offerings is Deep Stretch with Ally Nye, this class will start with a heat building more vigorous opening to get the blood moving and feel warm from the inside out, the class will then shift gears and for the final 45 minutes will take time to pause in yoga pose that provide opening and space in the body.  This class will be Mondays from 6:30-7:45PM.

All the adult Chandra classes can be paid for with a class pass or are $15 to drop in.
